Exploring new avenues for employee satisfaction

In the age of the digital workplace, business leaders are trying all kinds of different ways to further engage their employees. It can be a daunting task, especially with a young workers who plan to bolt to another company in a year or two. There are also many unsuccessful attempts at finding ways to better immerse a workforce into a company culture. However, the effective methods are growing and developing in time.

Cloud computing has become an increasingly central part of business operations throughout the world. The main intention of the cloud is to ease the processes of storing, accessing and backing up data. However, it also makes it much easier for workers to share useful company information, thereby encouraging workplace collaboration. The cloud promotes a wide range of benefits in a company’s business model. Employee engagement is just one of the nice ancillary perks.

Internal social networks have also become a useful technology for business leaders who want to encourage interactions between workers. These networks are often much lighter in content matter than a traditional email, for example. However, they can also be a place to aggregate internal opinions on work-related decisions. This emerging office tool can be viewed as the best of both worlds – work and play.

There are a wide range of other employee engagement tools that are being widely adopted across the globe. Yet no matter the strategy, chief executives would be wise to implement video for all of these tactics. Through training tutorials, internal messaging and event live streams, businesses can make content more accessible, enjoyable and digestible. Research has shown that video is a great method for employee engagement. As marketing and human resource departments gradually evolve their digital workplace models, video will only become a bigger part of their plans.

Research finds positives in workplace motivation
A recent survey by Argos for Business found that employers can motivate their workforce by communicating recognition of hard work, according to WS+B.

Approximately 38 percent of survey respondents said that they believe job satisfaction is the most important part of their work. About 17 percent said that the most important parts of their job are pay and benefits.

The news outlet also noted that about 43 percent of respondents said that feeling valued was the top motivator. This was followed by making a difference (28 percent) and inheriting responsibility (26 percent).

“Motivated employees should be at the heart of every business, as a continuously engaged and driven workforce is more efficient, which in turn impacts positively on a business’ bottom line,” Danny Clenaghan, the managing director of Argos for Business, told the news outlet. “To help drive motivation, we are therefore dedicating a whole day to giving a receiving recognition and motivational compliments. We hope that our employees, managers and business owners all get involved and become part of our Employee Motivation Day campaign.”

Room for improvement nationwide
While a significant number of employers are focused on improving employee engagement, the Huffington Post reported that between 40 percent and 60 percent of all employees are passively or actively disengaged with their work. Some companies, however, are continuing to push forward with video messaging and other innovative strategies.

“We make sure that each and every one of our employees understand how we help our clients and how they fit into that,” Greg Becker, the CEO of Silicon Valley Bank, told the news outlet. “We’re always looking for ways to connect what employees do directly to the success of the client. This helps employees to enjoy their work more, and it also boosts their engagement.”
