Equinix Selects Kontiki to Deliver Video to Employees Worldwide
Demonstrates continued adoption for enterprise-class, secure P2P as the optimal Enterprise Content Delivery Networking solution
San Jose, Calif. — November 16, 2009 —Kontiki, the leading provider of enterprise video solutions, announced today that Equinix Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) has selected Kontiki’s Enterprise Content Delivery Networking (ECDN) solution to deliver video content to every Equinix employee’s desktop worldwide. Equinix, a provider of global data center services, deployed Kontiki within a matter of weeks and successfully reached its employees with high-quality video for training and employee communications. This announcement was made at the Streaming Media West 2009 conference, San José McEnery Convention Center, booth #619.Today’s announcement demonstrates continued adoption and momentum for Kontiki’s cloud-based ECDN. With 10 times lower costs than traditional hardware approaches, it is the only way to practically reach every employee with video – especially those in hard to reach "off the enterprise network" branch and remote offices who often need this effective form of corporate communication the most. And by offering its ECDN solution through a Software as a Service model, Kontiki also extends the ECDN category into the cloud, giving customers a quick deployment option with a low cost of entry.
Brian Lillie, CIO for Equinix, shares that creating a video culture is a top priority for Equinix and gives the globally diverse company a significant communications edge. “Next to face-to-face interaction, video is the ultimate form of communication. We are looking to live video and video on demand as an important new communication channel to help us connect more personally with employees as well as facilitate training, employee meetings and many other uses. And as video becomes more ubiquitous throughout our company, we knew that we’d need a complete video infrastructure in place that could grow with our needs. We adopted Kontiki’s video solution portfolio based on ROI, scalability and ease of use.”
Global enterprises, content and financial companies, and more than 350 network service providers rely upon Equinix to protect and connect their most valued information assets. Equinix operates 45 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers across 18 markets in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Gartner analyst Joe Skorupa writes in his recent report(1) that “enterprises rely increasingly on rich media to communicate with, inspire and train employees, both on and off the enterprise network. Advances in peer-assisted technologies are providing an alternative to traditional appliance-based ECDNs.” He also says that “the maturation of enterprise-class peer-assisted protocols and the associated administrative and management functions provide a low-cost, very quick to deploy option.”
