FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Kontiki?
Powered by innovative technology, Kontiki pioneered the enterprise video platform and enterprise content delivery network markets, providing superior cloud-based content delivery across the enterprise. Kontiki’s video solutions enable consumer-grade video engagement with enterprise-grade control over video delivery for the world’s largest companies, including American Airlines, Wells Fargo, Nationwide and Nestle, serving nearly 1.5 million users worldwide. Kontiki offers organizations the unique ability to globally deliver video on demand or live broadcasts to 100% of their employees, regardless of location, and to the full range of today’s business devices, including smart phones and tablets, without congesting networks or compromising video quality.

How did you come-up with your company name?
Our name takes inspiration from Thor Heyerdahl‘s famous Kon-Tiki expedition (the name of the vessel used) which proved to the world that with an innovative approach and application of seagoing technology, it was possible to utilize sparse, but existing indigenous resources to deliver valuable payloads (in Thor’s case, himself and his crew) across vast and unpredictable distances.

We take this as our inspiration as we help global enterprises deliver content over vast and unpredictable networks utilizing existing resources and our application with software only (no additional hardware required). Like Thor, we have met with great skepticism during our early history, but over the past 10+ years we have proven our technology to the world, by delivering video to nearly 1.5 million employees within some of the largest and most complex enterprise networks on the planet. With Kontiki, it is possible.

What is the Kontiki EVP?
The Kontiki Enterprise Video Platform (EVP) is a cloud-based solution that enables consumer-grade video engagement with enterprise-grade control over video delivery. Powering its solution is the patented Kontiki Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN), which provides high quality content delivery with global reach that is secure, reliable, and network-friendly. Kontiki’s technology allows organizations to utilize Live Video Webcasting, Video On-Demand, as well as solve other video delivery challenges over their existing networking infrastructure.

What makes Kontiki unique?
Kontiki’s feature set and cloud-based peer-assisted delivery technology:

  • Enables high-quality rich media delivery options to all employees everywhere
  • Fosters employee engagement through communication based on a video culture
  • Eliminates security headaches by providing enterprise-grade protection of infrastructure, content and resources
  • Provides efficiency, scalability and control over your existing network
  • Offers robust analytics that provide content insights to assist in decision making

The Kontiki solution is unlike traditional on-demand and live-streaming methods which can slow down your existing network by overreliance on  WAN (Wide Area Network) bandwidth availability and hardware-based ECDNs (Enterprise Content Delivery Networks) that require deployment of additional networking appliances that lack scale due to both prohibitively high upfront costs and high ongoing TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Kontiki offers a unique software-only combination of cloud-based servers for video content management and distributed client software for optimal enterprise video delivery that is secure, scalable, cost-effective and network-friendly.
